Crypto Valley is to Web 3 what Silicon Valley was for Web 2.

The era of dominance by a few centralised Big Tech giants is coming to a close… Web 3 is coming. So where does a decentralised web ruled by blockchain call home?

According to many, the answer lies in Switzerland. To be specific, the lakeside town of Zug. Over the past few years the crypto community here has been busy forging an identity for itself as the ‘Crypto Valley’ — Europe’s answer to Silicon Valley.

Likvidi is partnering with the Crypto Valley Association to help support the development of this new ecosystem of excellence. To find out more about what they do, read on.

A Short History of Zug

The town of Zug is just outside Zurich, overlooking a lake and boasting typical Swiss charm. But Zug is far from typical. The town is home to one of the largest blockchain hubs in the world, outcompeting giants like London, Singapore, Silicon Valley, and New York. But how did this happen?

It all started with Johann Gevers. When looking for a base for his crypto finance startup Monetas in 2013, he quickly landed on Switzerland as the obvious choice. With its decentralised, citizen-controlled politics, ingrained culture of individualism, innovation, and entrepreneurship, world-class infrastructure, and educational institutions, it seemed perfect.

Other companies soon followed. Ethereum, Bitcoin Suisse, Xapo, Shapeshift, and Consensys are just some of the companies residing in the Crypto Valley. With the help of a supportive government willing to institute forward-thinking regulatory frameworks and a raft of enthusiastic service providers and startups flocking to the area, Zug’s Crypto Valley has flourished.

As Crypto Valley has grown, the need for a body to represent the interests and coordinate the activities of the scene’s participants became apparent. And thus, the Crypto Valley Association was born.

What Do The Crypto Valley Association Do?

The Crypto Valley Association aims to support and enable crypto enthusiasts from around the world to foster growth and collaboration within the blockchain economy. They spread the word about the benefits of Crypto Valley and work to protect what’s so special about it.

One of the best showcases of what Crypto Valley has to offer is its annual Crypto Valley Conference, currently in its 4th year, that brings together industry figures for two days of discussions on the future and current state of blockchain technology.

How Does This Help Us Slow Global Warming?

Likvidi’s mission is to bring on-chain carbon offsets to the masses. So if there’s a concentration of passionate blockchain enthusiasts doing exciting things, we want to be part of it.

Our partnership with the Crypto Valley Association gives us a voice in the heart of Europe’s blockchain community, allowing us to spread our message and enable all sorts of exciting possibilities.

When it comes to the planet, big ideas are needed. So, linking ourselves with Crypto Valley’s culture of infectious energy and entrepreneurial drive makes perfect sense for enabling possibilities for the future.
